The wisecracking, smooch crazy Dawson, best known as the host of FAMILY FEUD and for playing Cpl. Newkirk on the 1960's CBS smash hit comedy HOGAN'S HEROES, was born on November 20th, 1932 in Gosport, Hampshire, England. He passed away June 2, 2012 from complications related to esophageal cancer at Ronald Reagan Memorial Hospital in L.A.. Dawson was 79.
Dawson is also fondly remembered for playing a evil caricature of himself, the host of a futuristic game show in which prisoners try to outrun deadly hunters in hopes of winning their freedom in THE RUNNING MAN with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Dawson was a regular performer on ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN from 1970 to 1973 and played Chita Rivera's husband on the third and final season of THE NEW DICK VAN DYKE SHOW.
