That's about the nicest thing I can say about the characters Chandler played in his almost 40 year screen and TV career.



Chandler was born on Jan. 28th, 1935. He died on Feb. 16th, 2010 at age 75.

Fair haired and pale, with hooded, piercing blue eyes and a whiny voice, Chandler was destined to play a slew of malicious, hateful and repugnant villains and cowards in over 100 films and TV episodes. He was the guy you loved to hate.



Some of his most memorable incarnations of evil include: the title role in MAD DOG COLL, the racist confederate prisoner Jimmy Lee in MAJOR DUNDEE, Duece, a kill crazy member of David Carradine's train robbing gang in THE GOOD GUYS AND THE BAD GUYS, Jack Palance's heinous henchman in ONCE A THIEF, one of the disgusting and crazy Hammond Brothers (along with James Drury, John Anderson, L. Q. Jones & Warren Oates) in the Sam Peckinpah classic RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY, another crazy killer--this time a juvenile delinquent one, in THE YOUNG SAVAGES, Buford Pusser's main nemesis, Ray Henry, in WALKING TALL PART 2, a bounty hunter looking for THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES, Bleak, Elisabeth Shue's dangerous pursuer in ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING, Henry the looter in PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD, mentally disturbed hired gun Skeeter in SHOOT OUT and my favorite Chandler baddie, Fair, Forrest Tucker's gutless & pathetic captured prisoner in BARQUERO.





Chandler played more nefarious types (with a few non-baddies thrown in) in such other films THOSE CALLOWAYS, RETURN OF A GUNFIGHTER, DRAG RACER, Acid in THE HOOKED GENERATION, PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID, THE TAKE, THE ULTIMATE THRILL, CAPONE, DOC HOOKER'S BUNCH, MAKO: THE JAWS OF DEATH, SCORCHY, CHESTY ANDERSON U.S. NAVY, THE SHADOW OF CHIKARA aka DEMON MOUNTAIN,  WHISKEY MOUNTAIN, THE LITTLE DRAGONS, THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, TRIUMPHS OF A MAN CALLED HORSE, ONLY THE LONELY, TRANCERS II, BODY OF EVIDENCE and more.






Chandler had guest spots and roles in such TV programs and tele-films as CANNON, THE RIFLEMAN, ROUTE 66, COMBAT!, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, THE FUGITIVE, THE PARTNERS, MOON OF THE WOLF, HITCHED, ADAM-12, THE ROOKIES, GUNSMOKE, TOMA, POLICE WOMAN, LUCAN, SWITCH, FLAMINGO ROAD, FANTASY ISLAND, SAWYER AND FINN, HILL STREET BLUES, HUNTER, SIMON & SIMON, DRAGNET, AIRWOLF, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, ER, CHICAGO HOPE, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE (as Flith), COLUMBO, SARGE and more.

Did you know...?


He played Tennis for the U.S. Army while serving his country in Germany during the 1950's.

An avid yoga disciple, he once spent a year learning yoga techniques at a monastery founded by Paramahansa Yogananda.

The complete opposite of his screen persona, Chandler was known to family and friends for his jolly, upbeat personality. In a newspaper article about him in his home state of West Virginia, his mother is quoted as saying "I say it just shows what a good actor he is, because he never did a mean thing in his life" .
