The lovely, talented and delightfully charming Glenne Headly, known for her praiseworthy stage work with Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater Co. and many acclaimed film and TV roles (DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, LONESOME DOVE, DICK TRACY, etc.), was born March 13th, 1955. She passed away due to complications from a pulmonary embolism on June 8th, 2017. 
The 2-time Emmy Nominee was only 62.


She is survived by her second husband, of 24 years, film set grip Byron McCulloch (MISSION: IMPOSSIBILE, BURLESQUE, DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS) and their son Stirling.

Headly, who was born in New London, Connecticut on March 13th, 1955, 
died during production of the Hulu comedy series FUTURE MAN, in which she was cast as lead Josh Hutcherson's doting mother Diane. 
Headly had filmed 5 of the series 13 episodes.



 Headly began her acting career on the stage.
After appearing with her first husband John Malkovich in Chicago's Goodman Theatre production of Sam Sheppard's CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS, Headly was asked to join the Steppenwolf Theatre Co., where she would appear in numerous plays, including BORN YESTERDAY opposite John FRASIER Mahoney, WAITING FOR A PARADE with Joan NIXON Allen and WAITING FOR LEFTY with Gary FOREST GUMP  Sinise. Headly went on to win 4 Joseph Jefferson Awards for her performances in Steppenwolf's SAY GOODNIGHT, GRACIE, BALM IN GILEAD, THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST and COYOTE UGLY, snaring 3 other nominations (ABSENT FRIENDS, BORN YESTERDAY and THE HOUSE) for them, as well as 1 nod for MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN for Chicago's Wisdom Bridge Theatre.

In N.Y. City, Headly appeared on Broadway in the 1985 revival of George Bernard Shaw's ARMS AND THE MAN, which was directed by Malkovich and also starred Kevin Kline and Raul Julia.



20 years later she returned to The Great White Way opposite Larry David (and later Jason Alexander) in the comedy FISH IN THE DARK, also penned by David.

Her many Off-Broadway credits include:
EXTREMITIES, BALM IN GILEAD (also Costume Designer). THE JACKSONIAN, and THE PHILANTHROPIST (1984 Theatre World Award Winner).

In 1999,Headley appeared in AUNT DAN AND LEMON with Miranda Richardson in London. The plays author Wallace Shawn directed the show as well. 

Headley's more recent stage endeavors, performed everywhere from L.A. to N.Y. to Ireland, include: 
STAGE KISS, THE JACKSONIAN, MY BRILLIANT DIVORCE and THE GUYS with David Hyde Pierce.

Headly made her big screen debut, in 1981's FOUR FRIENDS, directed by Arthur Penn (BONNIE & CLYDE, LITTLE BIG MAN) and filmed in Chicago.

The next year, Headly made her TV debut on PBS, reprising her award-winning role in Steppenwolf's SAY GOODNIGHT, GRACIE

Besides Penn, Headly worked with such noted directors as Warren Beatty, Woody Allen, Robert Benton, Frank Oz, Alan Rudolph, Peter Yates, Susan Seidelman and Paul Mazursky.

Headly studied at the Robert Joffrey School of Ballet & modern dance at the Martha Graham Studios,

She majored in drama at The High School of Performing Arts in N.Y. City, graduating with honors.

Headly graduated from the American College in Switzerland with a bachelor's degree.

She was married to John Malkovich (IN THE LINE OF FIRE, PLACES IN THE HEART, DEATH OF A SALESMAN, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) from 1982 to 1988.



Headly studied American Sign Language for her role in MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS.
